Shobha Shukla is a noted feminist, and health, gender and development justice activist. She is the founding Executive Director and Managing Editor at CNS (Citizen News Service), President of Asia Pacific Media Alliance for Health, Gender and Development Justice (APCAT Media), Chairperson of Global Antimicrobial Resistance Media Alliance (GAMA), and coordinator of SHE & Rights (Sexual Health with Equity & Rights) initiative.
Shobha was also the Lead Discussant for SDG-3 at the United Nations intergovernmental High Level Political Forum 2025.
Under her leadership, CNS has emerged as a noted campaigning activist organisation on health, gender and development justice, and also manages a global CNS news wire to support policy, advocacy and communications at CNS. Thanks to her, CNS is an organisational member of WHO Civil Society Task Force on AMR, WHO CSO Commission, WHO Diabetes Compact, International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR Net), Asia Pacific Network of Environment Defenders (APNED), Asia Pacific Regional CSO Coordination Mechanism (AP-RCEM), Network for Accountability of Tobacco Transnationals (NATT), Corporate Accountability, Global AMR Media Alliance (GAMA), Asia Pacific Media Alliance for Health, Gender and Development Justice (APCAT Media), among others.
She has received several awards globally over the years, some of the recent recognitions include: AMR One Health Emerging Leaders and Outstanding Talents Award at 2024 inter-governmental Global Ministerial Conference on AMR for CNS-hosted GAMA; APCAT Award 2019 endorsed by several ministries of health in Asia Pacific nations for her contribution to global health; numerous International AIDS Society HIV Science Fellowship Awards over the years (most recently in 2024), ASI Presidential Awards in 2019, 2023 and 2025; among others.
