Health Justice Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 to Ashok Ramsarup

Health Justice Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 will be conferred upon award-winning senior journalist Ashok Ramsarup in Durban, South Africa. Health Justice Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 is co-hosted by AIDS Society of India (ASI), Gandhi Development Trust in South Africa, People's Health Organization (PHO), Asha Parivar and CNS (Citizen News Service). It will be conferred upon Ashok Ramsarup on International Nelson Mandela Day (18th July 2016) in Phoenix Settlement, Durban, South Africa with kind help from Ela Gandhi of Gandhi Development Trust who is consistently working for a just and social order. Ela Gandhi is also Mahatma Gandhi's grand-daughter.

Dr Ishwar Gilada, President of AIDS Society of India, who is among the first medical professional to come forward for AIDS care when first case got diagnosed in India thirty years ago; Shobha Shukla, Managing Editor of CNS, who has been consistently writing on health and gender justice for decades; Ela Gandhi of Gandhi Development Trust whose contribution for a just social order is commendable; will be among those present when Ashok Ramsarup receives this felicitation.

About 2016 awardee Ashok Ramsarup:
Mr Ashok Ramsarup, is a senior and widely acclaimed award-winning journalist in Durban, South Africa, with 42 years of rich experience in journalism (12 years with Sunday Times and 30 years in broadcast journalism with South African Broadcasting Corporation – SABC). He studied at Durban University of Technology, South Africa.

Mr Ramsarup has had a decorated career in journalism marked by a range of awards and recognitions highlighting his work, including coveted international awards across this sector. For instance, a landmark international award of repute was conferred upon him in recognition of his journalism work to promote peace and harmony between India and Pakistan.

Mr Ramsarup has been an inspiration and professional guide to Citizen News Service (CNS) over the years and helped shape our health and development reporting in Asian and African nations. He moderated monthly CNS webinars for media in Asian and African nations on current global health priorities as well.
