Call to register: Asia Pacific Regional Training on Gender Equality and Human Rights

The Asia Pacific Regional Training on Gender Equality and Human Rights will be held during 22nd to 24th November 2021 (virtually). This regional training is being co-hosted by ARROW (Asian Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women) and CNS in lead up to this year's 16 days campaign against sexual and other forms of gender-based violence, World AIDS Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and Human Rights Day.

When will this training be held?

This training will be held online (virtually) from 22nd to 24th November 2021 (see registration link for session timings, ~2 hours daily).

What will this training cover?

This Asia Pacific Regional Training will provide a direct interface with leading experts on gender equality and human rights on range of issues, such as:

Module I (for all)
· Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
· International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD)
· Nairobi Statement on ICPD25: Accelerating the Promise
· Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action
· Generation Equality Forum and Global Acceleration Plan
· Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
· Universal Periodic Review (UPR)
· Development Justice model
· Corporate Capture
· Connecting the dots: Religious fundamentalism, gender justice, capitalism, and militarisation
· Taking Stock: What has been the progress on walking-the-talk on these global promises in advancing gender equality and human rights in Asia and the Pacific?

Module II (only for gender justice advocates)
· Building partnerships with the media
· Understanding how different media works
· Defining a clear purpose and identifying approaches for media outreach
· More the merrier: Forging partnerships to do collective media outreach
· Amat Victoria Curam/ Victory loves preparation: preparing to support media outreach (includes 4 tools to help draft advocacy documents)
· Framing a news is key!
· Group work to test the 4 tools above in a couple of different hypothetical situations

Module III (only for media)
· Media under gender lens
· Role of media as one of the key cogs-in-the-wheels for development justice and democracy
· #BeTheChange: Why ‘think’ gender?
· Audio transcription, and basic tips for photos and videos

Module IV (for all)
· Reporting or writing responsibly: #1stDoNoHarm!
· Emergencies/ humanitarian crises situations
· Community-led documentation to gather evidence for media/ legal recourse
· Media engagement
· Staying informed and adding value to our social media engagement

Module V
· Asia Pacific regional media leadership network for gender equality and human rights
· Asia Pacific regional Awards for reporting on gender equality and human rights  

  • Before every session (few days in advance), all participants will receive online pre-recorded lectures, reading materials, reference materials to go through before they join the specific session
  • On successful completion of the training, participants will receive the e-certificate acknowledging their successful completion of the Asia Pacific Regional Training on Gender Equality and Human Rights
