[Call for application] BMM Health Fellowship Programme 2017-2018

[Click here to apply] CNS is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting applications for new Fellows for its Bimla Misra Memorial Health Fellowship Programme 2017-2018. This programme offers mentorship, peer support, networking opportunities and technical assistance on global health reporting. CNS awards annual Bimla Misra Memorial (BMM) Health Fellowships to health writers from low- and middle-income countries to build upon their understanding and sensitivity on a range of global health priorities. It aims to achieve the following objectives:
  • Increase evidence-based and quality health reporting from the frontlines
  • Connect the dots between different health issues and between health and different development issues
  • Reiterate linkages of health with national, regional and global commitments (treaties like WHO FCTC/ UNFCC/ Business and Human Rights Treaty), SDGs, ICPD, Istanbul Principles for Development Effectiveness, etc
  • Document voices of affected communities dealing with specific health issues
  • Increase community-centric health news coverage in local newspapers and other media channels 
How to apply?
Easy! Two steps!
  • Step 1: Fill the form
  • Step 2: Submit a writing sample (700-1000 words) in English, based upon any of the three webinars (links to register for these webinars are given below), and relevant interviews conducted locally with affected communities/ other experts (email the article to fellows@citizen-news.org before the extended deadline of 30th April 2017)

    • Webinar 2 (watch recording): Friday, 17th March 2017: 1pm-2pm Geneva time

Know the Fellows 2017-2018!
Names of selected candidates will be announced in a special webinar on Tuesday, 23rd May 2017 (1pm-2pm Geneva time).

BMM Health Fellows will:
  • Participate in monthly webinars on current global health priorities
  • Receive regularly exclusive and latest media advisories/ issue briefs on specific health issues so that they can conduct in-country interviews with key experts, including those from affected communities, and bring local realities to the fore
  • Write in-depth (700-1000 words) news feature articles (or video articles/ podcasts) every month based upon monthly webinars, interviews with affected communities, and local/regional national experts
  • Receive high quality professional editing of their articles by CNS Editors
  • Get more visibility through dissemination of their articles through CNS syndicate, and other social media platforms
  • Get preference when CNS is putting together an on-site team for conference reporting at various regional or global health conferences, meetings or other events
  • Get considered for Health Justice Media Awards 2017 which may include an opportunity to attend and provide daily conference coverage from 48th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Mexico
  • Be awarded a certificate recognizing their contribution and participation in the annual Bimla Misra Memorial Health Fellowship Programme and a lot more!
